HOA communities come together to celebrate the holidays.

HOA communities are no exception when it comes to gathering friends for the holidays.

Many residents make the streets glow with festive lights. And regardless of anyone's faith or traditions, this time of year is for celebration.

After all, the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year!

As 2019 comes to a close, residents who lead and volunteer on the HOA board often seek ways to get the community together during the holidays. They want to help residents get in the spirit of giving and sharing.

At Condominium Associates, we want to give our associations seven-event ideas that your HOA community can plan for togetherness during the holiday season.

HOA Community Events that Celebrate the Holidays

1. Sponsor a charitable donation drive. There are many organizations, local and national, that help people in need. Consider organizing a Toys for Tots Foundation toy drive. Or you could collect canned goods and donate them to a local church. Any way to help needy children and families during the holidays is always something special!

2. Organize a White Elephant gift exchange. Have the event at the community clubhouse or common area. Turn it into a mini-party and have participating homeowners bring snacks to share.

3. Hold a holiday tree decorating contest. Ask residents to decorate small trees. Residents can vote for their favorite tree. Come up with a fun prize, such as a gift basket. Create a sign-up for residents to sign up for items to donate to the basket.

4. Arrange a Holiday cake bake-off! Have residents get their best recipes and bake holiday cakes and have the HOA members vote!

5. Organize a community Progressive Holiday Party. Each participating homeowner provides a different item: an appetizer, salad, or side dish, and you eat "dinner" as you move from house to house. Create a sign up for families that want to be involved in the event. Each family signs up for a time slot and opens their home to the group. The first family has an appetizer; second family has the first course, and so on. A few families can double up to lessen the burden of preparing a dish.

6. Have a homeowner's recipe exchange. Each community member submits a favorite recipe of their favorite dish. Ideas include a chocolate dessert, apple pie, or a Quiche. Residents then bring a sample of the finished dish to share as well as the recipe. Extend the cheer and have a follow-up get-together where everyone shares their new cooking talent.

7. Organize a resident volunteer day. Contact your local food bank or soup kitchen and arrange for your residents to help cook or feed the needy. Since we live by the beach, you could also do an evening beach clean up and then have a campfire on the beach. It's an excellent way for your community to give back to the community.

The holidays are a time to gather around and create a place of peace and tranquility. It's a time to share your talents and treats with those that live closet to you. Celebrating together reminds us of a simpler time filled with joy and merriment.
