Ways to Keep Your Community Clean and Safe
From community events to shared amenities, living in the same vicinity as other people can be advantageous and much fun. However, it can also come with challenges, especially during cold and flu season.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, viruses can exist on commonly-used hard surfaces like door handles, elevator buttons, and gym equipment. Unfortunately, these germs can move quickly from one person to the next.
Board members' have a goal to prevent the spread of any diseases so that residents can stay healthy, and your community can run smoothly. Read on to learn five ways you can help do that.
Clean & Disinfect Community Spaces
Onsite staff should have plenty of cleaning supplies and instructions on how to use them correctly. During an outbreak, cleaning and disinfecting should be done more often and multiple times a day in heavily trafficked areas like lobbies, elevators, mailrooms, and fitness facilities.
Add a hand sanitizer station in busy areas and support its use. Promote the importance of washing hands thoroughly after residents spend time in common areas, too.
If you're unsure how to promote these agendas, your property manager has the resources and training to help your board find the right supplies and staff to perform these essential tasks. The CDC offers a list of print resources that you can put up around your community to assist you as well.
Board: Stay Informed
Be sure that your entire board and management team are staying up to date with news from the CDC, World Health Organization, and your state and county health officials. Condominium Associates can advise your board about actions they should take, such as closing amenities or canceling community events.
Keep the Community “In the know”
Quality communication is more critical than ever as we continue to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Communicate clearly about prevention steps such as social distancing and any efforts the community is making. For example, inform your community that you are taking extra measures to maintain cleanliness in common areas (as mentioned above.)
In next week's post, we will go into more detail on how to onboard web-communications. In the meantime, please know that CA is holding board meetings, annual meetings, and individual assessment meetings online via Zoom.
Use the Owner Login Portal
Now more than ever, your residents must know how to use the online portal to access their account information, pay their HOA or COA fees, and to find resources related to their community. A moderator will manage the video conference so that the property manager can focus on running the meeting.
Get Social Online
More than ever, residents are going online to make connections with people. Due to the social distancing restrictions, it is essential to get online to share your stories with your community. It is also a chance to highlight the positive aspects going on in the neighborhood, as well as to post relevant information related to the community concerning COVID-19. Take this opportunity to get online and get heard by your residents!
